Anton Emmanuel obtained his medical degree from London University in 1990 and is a Consultant and Professor of Neurogastroenterology at University College London.
He has supervised 28 fellows to PhD and higher degrees. His research has been on gut neurophysiology from a clinical perspective, with a focus on understanding and then developing treatments for common but frequently unspoken symptoms and complications. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, editorials, guideline development and policy documents. He has been awarded UCL Top Teacher’s distinctions and developed and delivered national and international education programmes.
He was appointed Lead of the Workforce Equality Standard (WRES) in Welsh Government in May 2023, having previously served in a similar role in NHS England since 2020.
On a personal basis: father of four, immigrant of African-Asian origin, multiple amateur (guitarist, homebrewer, woodland worker).
