Four substantive full-time consultant posts combining clinical neurology, neurological rehabilitation and stroke services: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital 1992-1997; St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust 1997-2002; Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court 2002-2005; and North Bristol NHS Trust 2005-2014. Part-time locum NHS consultant neurologist Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham 2019.
Part-time Judicial Office Holder as medically qualified panel member in four First-Tier Tribunals including War Pensions & Armed Forces Compensation Chamber since 2005, and Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Tribunal since 2013.
Retired from full-time NHS practice in 2014 after 22 years working as a consultant neurologist, and undertaken medicolegal work as an expert witness both before and since then, now seeing between 50 and 100 Claimants per year, now approximately equal Claimant/Defendant split, .
Throughout my career I have always had a special interest and developed particular expertise in traumatic and vascular brain injuries and their rehabilitation, working closely with colleagues in neurosurgery and neuropsychology. I remain licensed to practice with the General Medical Council and still participate in regular continuing professional development.
