Dr Richard Mannion is a distinguished consultant neurosurgeon and the neurosurgery specialty lead at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. His expertise lies in managing spinal conditions and brain tumours, with a particular focus on tumours of the skull base and pituitary gland. Dr Mannion is passionate about all facets of spinal diseases, including infections, tumours, trauma, and degenerative conditions. He is especially interested in minimally invasive spinal surgery, having observed the benefits of keyhole techniques in his patients.
Dr Mannion honed his skills in minimally invasive spinal techniques during a fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, and has since developed a significant practice in Cambridge. He holds a PhD in chronic pain, having conducted research in London and at Harvard University under the mentorship of Professor Clifford Woolf, a renowned pain specialist. Dr Mannion is actively involved in research and has published extensively on chronic pain, nerve pain, spinal diseases, and minimally invasive spinal techniques.
Outside his professional life, Dr Mannion is married and has four children. His clinical interests include treating conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, leg pain, lumbar radiculopathy, cervical myelopathy, cervical radiculopathy, and thoracic disc prolapse.
