Mr “Taff” Edwards is a fellowship-trained Trauma, Orthopaedics and Orthoplastics surgeon with extensive expertise in upper-limb trauma, elective hand/wrist/elbow surgery and peripheral nerve injury. Since 2017 he has produced a substantial medico-legal portfolio including over 1,000 clinical negligence reports, 220 major/complex injury reports and more than 20 Joint Expert Statements. He is currently a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal London Hospital/Barts Health, where he is Clinical Director for Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics, and Clinical Lead for Hand Surgery. Alongside his clinical work, he is a Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, advises and has written national guidelines for hand trauma, and has 21 years’ experience managing major trauma in both military and civilian settings.

His academic and research output includes an MD investigating outcomes in the British Army amputee cohort, multiple first-author book chapters (including in the Centre for Blast Injury Studies series and Gray’s Surgical Anatomy), and a substantial record of original publications across hand/wrist/elbow trauma, elbow biomechanics, upper-limb modelling, heterotopic ossification and mass-casualty medicine. He has received numerous high-profile prizes—including the Alexander Medal, The Premier Award of the British Army medical services for professional work of outstanding merit, and the Montifiore Medal, awarded to a surgeon in the RAMC who has distinguished him/herself in the subject of Military Surgery.
